| Context: Students have been introduced to picture books and are now ready to begin reading some easy chapter books. |
| Materials/Technology: Winnie the Pooh book and video |
| Procedures:
Week 1: Students will be introduced to the Fiction section of the Library Media Center and shown how the books are arranged in alphabetical order by the author's last name. They will discuss the difference between fiction and non-fiction. Then, they will be introduced to the author of the Winnie the Pooh books by listening to the book "A.A. Milne, Author of Winnie the Pooh", by Marlene Toby. Week 2: Students will begin listening to the book "Winnie the Pooh", and they will be quizzed on the correct sequence of events as the Library Media Specialist reads aloud. Week 3: Students will continue listening to the book "Winnie the Pooh", and will be asked to predict what will happen in the story and draw conclusions about the story. Last Week: Students will view the video "Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day" as a culminating activity, then discuss how the movie might relate to their own lives. |
| Student Assessment: Students will be assessed visually as the choose books from the fiction section of the Library Media Center and discuss what they are reading. |
