ELA-P-R-1 Students will listen to a variety of genres (e.g., stories, poems, articles) to form an understanding of reading.

 

Core Content for Assessment

RD-E-1.0.10 Connect literature to students lives and real world issues.

 

Resources: various books by Jan Brett, two web sites; Author Jan Brett's Home Page - A Great Place for Ideasa PowerPoint presentation about Jan Brett.

Lesson Plan:

Week #1: Students will be introduced to the author Jan Brett and view the Power Point presentation. Students will review the CHAMP expectations for the various parts of the Library Media Center and check out their library books.

Week #2: Students will review what we covered last week, then, they will listen to "Daisy Comes Home" and talk about the locale and the Chinese writing in the book. A Treva coloring page will be available to them.  

 Week #3: Students will listen to "Fritz and the Beautiful Horses" and have availabe a Daisy coloring page.

Week #4: Students will view the video "Berlioz the Bear" as their culminating activity for this unit. 

Assessment: Students will be assessed on their knowledge of authors as they select books to check out and read.
