"Choosing Picture Books"

Grade Level: Kindergarten          

Objectives: K3: Students will locate picture books in the Library Media Center and replace the book on the shelf in the correct place with the spine facing out.

Program of Studies:

PL-P-PW-S-PPH1

Students will demonstrate awareness of the concept of responsibility to oneself and others

    Resources: various picture books, stamp and stamp pad

Lesson Plan:  

    Students will be introduced to the concept of choosing picture books and then placing them correctly back on the shelf if they change their mind. The Library Media Specialist will demonstrate and have students tell her where books should be placed.  Students will choose a book to read , then take it to the tables and read quietly. One at a time, they will return their book to the correct place in the story corner.  If it is place in the correct location, then they will get a stamp on their hand.  The Library Media Specialist will guide students who are not sure where the books should be placed.

Assessment: Students will be assessed holistically on their knowledge as they replace their library books on the shelf.
