"Learning about Marc Brown"

Core Content for Assessment

RD-E-x.0.1  Use word recognition strategies (e.g., phonetic principles, context clues, structural analysis) to determine pronunciations and meanings of words in passages.

RD-E-x.0.3 Know that some words have multiple meanings and identify the correct meaning as the word is used.

 

Resources: a video Arthur's Eyes, by Marc Brown; various books by this author;  a web site with activities about Arthur and his friends, Arthur, and a web site with information about Marc Brown.

Lesson Plan:

Week 1: Students will be introduced to the author Marc Brown by viewing the information on the author web site and discussing him.   They will also be shown how to participate in some of the activities on the web site.  Then they will view the video Arthur's Lost Library Book.

Week 2: Students will listen to the books Arthur' Teacher Trouble and Arthur's Teacher Moves In.  Coloring sheets about the characters will be available. (Arthur and Mr. Ratburn)

Week 3: Students will listen to Arthur's Computer Disaster and have some time to create a bookmark.

Week 4: Students will listen to Arthur Babysits and Arthur's Family Vacation. Coloring sheets about the characters will be available. (Francine and Buster)

Week 4: Students will view the Reading Rainbow Arthur's Eyes.

Assessment: The Library Media Specialist will ask students to name the author of the book they are checking out.
