Classic Fairy Tales

Context:  Students have been introduced to Classic picture books; this unit will introduce them to Classic fairy tales.
Materials/Technology: various fairy tale books and downloaded videos
Procedures:

Week 1:  Students will be introduced to the non-fiction area of the Library Media Center and to classic fairy tales. They will discuss how fairy tales usually are about good vs. evil, have some magic in them, and have been told in many different countries. They will listen to "The Bremen Town Musicians", retold by Ilse Plume.

Week 2: Students will review fairy tales and then view the downloaded video "Rapunzel".

Week 3: Students will listen to "Hansel and Gretel", retold by Rika Lesser.

Week 4: Students will view the downloaded video "Strega Nona".

Week 5: Students will listen to "Red Riding Hood", retold by Harriet Pincus and "Goldilocks and the Three Bears", retold by Jan Brett.

Week 6: Students will view the downloaded videos "The Emperor's New Clothes" and "The Little Red Hen" to complete the unit.

Student Assessment: Students will assessed holistically as they choose to read a variety of fairy tales.
