"Lots of Stories"

Grade Level: Preschool/Early Start

Objective: 6. understand there are many different ways to tell a story, including flannel board stories, cutout stories, drawn stories and stories told using props, like dolls and puppets.

Resources: various books and other materials

Lesson Plan:

Week 1: Students will be introduced to the idea that stories can be told in a variety of ways. They will listen to the flannel board story, "The Three Billy Goats Gruff", listen to the finger puppet story "Jack and the Beanstalk" and listen to the book "Corduroy". They will then have time to color a picture of Corduroy.

Week 2: Students will review the concept that there are many different ways to tell a story. The Library Media Specialist will share the story, "Little Red Riding Hood", using the doll. She will then draw the story "Circus Time". 

Week 3: Students will review the concept that there are many different ways to tell a story. The Library Media Specialist will share the flannel board story, "The Elves and the Shoemaker". She will then do the cut paper story for "A" and each student will get a paper apple to color and cut out.  

Week 4: Students will review the concept that there are many different ways to tell a story. The Library Media Specialist will share the story, "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly", using the doll. She will then draw the story Bernard the Daredevil Bee".  

Week 5:  Students will review the concept that there are many different ways to tell a story. The Library Media Specialist will share the story, "Goldilocks and the the Three Bears", using the doll. She will then do the cut paper story "C" and each student will get a paper candle to color and cut out.  

Week 6: Students will review the concept that there are many different ways to tell a story. The Library Media Specialist will share the pop-up books, "Alpha Bugs", by David A. Carter, "Snappy Bugs", and "I Love to Eat Bugs", by John Stregan.

Week 7: Students will review the concept that there are many different ways to tell a story. The Library Media Specialist will share the story, "The Three Little Pigs", using the doll. She will then let the students act out the story, using the finger puppets in the book "The Three Little Pigs Finger Puppet Theatre", by Peter Stevenson..   

Assessment: Students will be assessed visually by the Library Media Specialist as they listen to a variety of stories.
