| Context: Students have previously been introduce to the non-fiction section of the Library Media Center in First Grade. |
| Materials/Technology: Various books and videos about folk tales from other countries |
| Procedures:
Week 1: Students will review the CHAMPs expectations for the Library Media Center and the non-fiction section of the Library Media Center. They will learn that folk tales and fairy tales are located in the non-fiction information section of the Library Media Center. Students will discuss the fact that literature is a cultural element. Students will listen to "The Funny Little Woman", by Arlene Mosel and "The Boy Who Drew Cats", by Margaret Hodges. The Library Media Specialist will have some folk tales on display for students to check out. Week 2: Students will review the CHAMPs expectations and what they have learned about non-fiction books and then listen to "The Empty Pot", by Demi and "The Magic Horse of Han Gan", by Chen Jiang Hong and then check out their library books. Week 3: Students will view the video "Yeh-Shen: A Cinderella Story From China", then check out their library books. Week 4: Students will listen to "Lon Po Po, by Ed Young and "The Boy of the Three Year Nap", by Dianne Snyder, review what they have learned about folk tales from China and Japan, and then check out their library books. |
| Student Assessment: Students will be assessed as they choose non-fiction books. |
