Core Content for Assessment

RD-E-x.0.1  Use word recognition strategies (e.g., phonetic principles, context clues, structural analysis) to determine pronunciations and meanings of words in passages.

Resources: Various books and videos by Dr. Seuss, Dr. Seuss's Seussville!

Lesson Plan:

Week 1: Students will be introduced to Dr. Seuss by viewing the video Meet the Author: Who's Dr Seuss? Meet Ted Geisel from SRA Video.  They will also be introduced to the Seussville web site in the computer lab.

Week 2: Students will continue the Dr. Seuss unit by hearing the biography, Dr. Seuss, We Love You, by Patricia Martin.   They will also hear If I Ran the Zoo.

Week 3 and Week 4: Students will see the video, Horton Hatches the Egg.

Week 5: Students will hear the book The Lorax.

Week 6 and Week 7: Students will view the video, Dr. Seuss on the Loose.

Week 8: Students will finish the Dr. Seuss unit by listening to Scrambled Eggs Super.

Assessment: Students will be assessed visually by the Library Media Specialist as they select books by a variety of authors.
