Program of Studies

ELA-P-R-6 Students will read a variety of materials to accomplish authentic purposes, including reading for enjoyment, to locate information, and to complete tasks.

 

Core Content for Assessment

RD-E-4.0.6 Locate and apply information for authentic purposes.

Resources: various books by Patricia Polacco; Patricia Polacco Power Point Presentation, notes for Presentation.

Lesson Plan:  

    Week One:  Students will be introduced to the author and illustrator, Patricia Polacco. They will go over a Power Point presentation about her, then choose and check out their library books. 

    Week Two:  Students will listen to "Chicken Sunday" and "The Bee Tree", then choose and check out their library books.

    Week Three: Students will listen to "The Keeping Quilt" and "John Philip Duck", then choose and check out their library books.

    Week Four: Students will listen to "Babushka Baba Yaga" and choose and check out their library books.

   Week Five: Students will listen to "Betty Doll" and choose and check out their library books.

  Week Six: Students will listen to "Aunt Chip and the Great Triple Creek Dam Affair" and choose and check out their library books.

    Assessment: Students will be assessed on their knowledge of authors as they choose a variety of books to read.
