Objectives:
3.11: Students will define the parts of a book, including author, title, illustrator, illustrations, cover, spine, title page, table of contents, glossary, index, publisher, place of publication and copyright date.

Resources: the videos "Story of a Book", from SVE; and clips from "Misty" from Paramount and "Brighty of the Grand Canyon" from Active Home Video; the streamed video "Literature for Children: Animal Books"
Lesson Plan:
Week #1: Students will be introduced to the topic of animals in fiction books/parts of a book and will view the video "Story of a Book" which introduces Marguerite Henry and how she creates a book.
Week #2: Students will watch part of the video "Misty" and the Library Media Specialist will have animal books on display for checkout.
Week #3: Students will watch part of the video "Brighty of the Grand Canyon" and the Library Media Specialist will have animal books on display for checkout.
Week #4: Students will listen to some excerpts from animal books and they will be available for checkout. The Library Media Specialist will introduce using the OPAC to look up materials.
Week #5: Students will view the streamed video "Literature for Children: Animal Books" from Pied Piper.
Assessment: Students will be assessed on how they choose a variety of materials in the Library Media Center.
